Mary L. Proctor, AKA "Missionary Mary", is a world renowned folk artist who started painting in February 1995. January of the previous year Mary had lost her grandmother, uncle, and aunt when, tragically, a fire broke out in her grandmother's mobile home. Her grandmother had raised Mary and she was who Mary called "Momma". The tragic loss would prove to be a catalyst for Mary's artistic awakening which would lead to a chance meeting with a New York City gallery curator and eventually a "One Woman Show" at the Tricia Collins-Grand Salon in SoHo, NYC. From that moment forward Mary would continue to emerge as a formidable force in the folk art community, becoming the "Queen of folk art". Her art can be seen on permanent displays in: The Smiths
